DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in alcohol and drug rehab centers are either there on their own accord, but generally in alcohol and drug treatment as part of a mandated order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders could possibly be required to go to treatment either in place of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehab rather than being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been proven that people who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues instead of other penalties being enforced upon them have far better chances of staying out of the court system than those who find themselves fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug treatment facilities DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to enable them to address these problems and find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which prompt their drug abuse. This will certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be affected by their substance abuse should they drive while drunk or high in the foreseeable future. This is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
