DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug rehabilitation facilities are either there by their own choice, but most of the time in alcohol and drug treatment due to a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders might be ordered to treatment either in place of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from rehab as an alternative to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that people who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues rather than other penalties being enforced upon them have greater chances of remaining out of the courts than people who find themselves fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to be able to address these issues in order to find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which prompt their substance abuse. This could truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be impacted by their substance abuse if they drive while intoxicated down the road. This is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
