DUI/DWI clients who are involved in alcohol and drug rehabilitation programs are either there by their own choice, but generally in drug rehab due to a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders could possibly be ordered to rehab either in lieu of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehab as opposed to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been established that those who are treated for drug abuse issues rather than other penalties being enforced upon them have much better chances of staying out of the courts than those who find themselves fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug and alcohol treatment facilities DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to enable them to address these problems in order to find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which prompt their substance abuse. This will certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be affected by their substance abuse whenever they drive while under the influence in the foreseeable future. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
