DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug treatment programs are generally there by their own choice, but most of the time in drug rehab as part of a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders could be ordered to rehab either instead of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehab rather than being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been established that people who are treated for substance abuse issues as opposed to other penalties being enforced upon them have far better odds of remaining out of the courts than those who find themselves fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug rehabilitation programs DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to be able to address these problems in order to find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances inside their lives which prompt their drug or alcohol use.
