DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug rehab programs are either there by their own choice, but most of the time in drug treatment due to a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders may be required to go to treatment either instead of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from treatment as an alternative to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been proven that individuals who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues rather than other penalties being forced upon them have much better odds of remaining out from the court system than those people who are fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In alcohol and drug treatment facilities DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to be able to address these problems in order to find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances inside their lives which prompt their drug or alcohol use. This will certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be affected by their substance abuse if they drive while drunk or high down the road. This is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
