DUI/DWI clients who're involved in drug and alcohol treatment centers are generally there by their own choice, but generally in drug treatment as part of a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders could be required to go to treatment either instead of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehab as an alternative to being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been established that people who are treated for substance abuse issues rather than other penalties being enforced upon them have far better odds of remaining out of the court system than people who find themselves fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In alcohol and drug rehab centers DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to enable them to address these issues and find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which set off their substance abuse. This could truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be affected by their drug abuse when they drive while under the influence in the future. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
