DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in alcohol and drug rehabilitation centers are generally there by their own choice, but more often than not in alcohol and drug rehabilitation as part of a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders could possibly be required to go to rehabilitation either in lieu of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehab rather than being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been proven that people who are treated for drug abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being forced upon them have greater odds of remaining out of the court system than people who find themselves fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In alcohol and drug treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, so that they can address these problems in order to find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which set off their drug abuse. This can certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be affected by their substance abuse if they drive while intoxicated down the road. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
