DUI/DWI clients who are involved in alcohol and drug treatment programs are generally there on their own accord, but most of the time in drug and alcohol rehabilitation due to a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders may be ordered to treatment either in lieu of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from treatment instead of being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the court system. It has been verified that people who are treated for drug abuse issues instead of other penalties being enforced upon them have greater chances of remaining out of the court system than people who find themselves fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug and alcohol treatment facilities DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to enable them to address these problems and find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which prompt their drug abuse. This could truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be impacted by their substance abuse should they drive while under the influence in the foreseeable future. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
