DUI/DWI clients that are involved in drug rehab programs are either there by their own choice, but usually in drug rehabilitation due to a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, especially first-time offenders could be ordered to rehab either in place of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehab rather than being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the court system. It has been established that people who are treated for substance abuse issues instead of other penalties being enforced upon them have far better chances of remaining out of the courts than people who find themselves fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In alcohol and drug treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, in order to address these problems and find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which trigger their substance abuse. This could certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be impacted by their drug or alcohol use whenever they drive while intoxicated in the foreseeable future. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
