DUI/DWI clients who're involved in drug treatment facilities are generally there by their own choice, but more often than not in drug and alcohol rehabilitation as part of a mandated order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders could be required to go to rehab either in lieu of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehab as an alternative to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been established that people who are treated for substance abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being forced upon them have much better chances of staying out of the courts than those who find themselves fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug rehab centers DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to be able to address these issues and find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which prompt their drug or alcohol use. This may certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be affected by their drug or alcohol use if they drive while drunk or high in the future. It's a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
