DUI/DWI clients who are involved in alcohol and drug treatment facilities are either there on their own accord, but generally in alcohol and drug treatment as part of a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, specifically initial offenders may be ordered to rehabilitation either in lieu of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehabilitation as opposed to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been proven that those who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues instead of other penalties being enforced upon them have much better odds of staying out of the court system than those who are fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In alcohol and drug rehab centers DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to enable them to address these issues and find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which prompt their drug abuse. This can certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be impacted by their drug abuse when they drive while drunk or high in the foreseeable future. It is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
