DUI/DWI clients that are involved in drug treatment facilities are generally there on their own accord, but most of the time in alcohol and drug rehabilitation as part of a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, especially first-time offenders may be ordered to rehabilitation either in lieu of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehabilitation rather than being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been verified that people who are treated for drug abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being forced upon them have far better chances of remaining out of the courts than those who are fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug and alcohol rehab facilities DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to enable them to address these problems and find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which set off their drug abuse. This will certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be impacted by their drug abuse when they drive while intoxicated down the road.
