DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug and alcohol rehab centers are generally there by their own choice, but generally in drug treatment as part of a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders could be required to go to rehab either in place of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from treatment as an alternative to being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the court system. It has been established that individuals who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as opposed to other penalties being forced upon them have far better chances of staying out of the court system than people who find themselves fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, in order to address these problems and find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which prompt their substance abuse. This will certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be impacted by their drug or alcohol use if they drive while drunk or high down the road. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
