Criminal justice clients are those who are in any type of drug and alcohol treatment center as a result of alcohol or drug related offense. This will happen for example when someone is found guilty of driving under the influence or DWI, or for any other kind of drug related criminal offense which has led the judge to believe the individual has any kind of drug abuse issue. Not everybody has the option of getting involved in an alcohol and drug treatment program as a criminal justice client, however, if this approach is ordered from the judge it's strongly advised that the individual try everything they can to benefit from this chance. Most of the time, other penalties and consequences may be totally eliminated or lessened if the individual succeeds in rehab and finishes the drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility that is ordered for them. First time offenders would be the most likely criminal justice clients because it has been determined that criminal justice clients that do experience rehab in lieu of other consequences have much lower recidivism rates than those who find themselves ordered to jail time or receive other penalties. In the end, it saves the court system both time and money when criminal justice clients obtain effective rehab.
