DUI/DWI clients that are involved in drug and alcohol treatment centers are generally there by their own choice, but usually in drug treatment as part of a mandated order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, specifically initial offenders could be ordered to rehab either instead of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from treatment as opposed to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been determined that individuals who are treated for substance abuse issues instead of other penalties being enforced upon them have far better odds of staying out from the court system than people who find themselves fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug and alcohol rehab programs DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, in order to address these issues in order to find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which prompt their drug abuse. This may certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be affected by their drug or alcohol use if they drive while intoxicated in the foreseeable future.
