DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug and alcohol rehab programs are either there by their own choice, but generally in alcohol and drug rehabilitation due to a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders may be required to go to rehabilitation either instead of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehabilitation rather than being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been proven that those who are treated for substance abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being enforced upon them have greater odds of staying out of the court system than those people who are fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In alcohol and drug treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, in order to address these problems and find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which set off their drug or alcohol use. This may certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be affected by their drug abuse whenever they drive while intoxicated in the foreseeable future. It is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
