DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in alcohol and drug rehabilitation centers are generally there by their own choice, but more often than not in drug treatment as part of a mandated order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders could be required to go to rehabilitation either in lieu of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehabilitation as an alternative to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been verified that individuals who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues rather than other penalties being forced upon them have far better chances of staying out of the courts than those who are fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug and alcohol treatment facilities DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, so that they can address these problems and find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which set off their substance abuse. This could truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be affected by their drug abuse whenever they drive while under the influence down the road. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
