DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in drug and alcohol treatment facilities are generally there on their own accord, but generally in alcohol and drug rehabilitation due to a mandated court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, specifically initial offenders may be required to go to rehab either in lieu of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from rehabilitation as opposed to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been proven that those who are treated for substance abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being enforced upon them have greater chances of staying out of the court system than those people who are fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In alcohol and drug treatment facilities DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, in order to address these problems and find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which trigger their substance abuse. This can truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be affected by their drug or alcohol use should they drive while intoxicated later on. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
