DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug and alcohol rehab facilities are generally there by their own choice, but more often than not in drug and alcohol treatment due to a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders could be required to go to rehab either in lieu of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehab rather than being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been proven that people who are treated for substance abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being enforced upon them have greater chances of staying out of the courts than those who are fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In alcohol and drug rehab programs DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, in order to address these issues in order to find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which prompt their substance abuse. This could certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be impacted by their substance abuse whenever they drive while intoxicated down the road. It is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
