DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from treatment as an alternative to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been verified that those who are treated for drug abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being enforced upon them have greater chances of remaining out of the court system than those who find themselves fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug and alcohol treatment centers DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, in order to address these problems in order to find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which prompt their drug abuse. This can truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be affected by their substance abuse whenever they drive while drunk or high in the foreseeable future.
