DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in alcohol and drug rehab programs are generally there on their own accord, but usually in drug rehabilitation as part of a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders could be ordered to rehab either in lieu of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from treatment as opposed to being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that those who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues rather than other penalties being enforced upon them have greater chances of remaining out from the court system than those people who are fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug rehabilitation facilities DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to enable them to address these issues in order to find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which trigger their drug or alcohol use. This could certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be affected by their drug or alcohol use when they drive while drunk or high later on. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
