DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug treatment centers are either there on their own accord, but generally in drug and alcohol rehabilitation due to a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, especially first-time offenders could possibly be required to go to treatment either in lieu of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from treatment instead of being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been verified that individuals who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as an alternative to other penalties being forced upon them have much better chances of remaining out of the court system than those who find themselves fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, in order to address these problems in order to find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which trigger their substance abuse. This could certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be affected by their drug abuse if they drive while under the influence later on. This is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
