Criminal justice clients are those who are in any sort of drug treatment facility because of a drug or alcohol related crime. This will happen for instance if a person is found guilty of drunk driving or DWI, and for any other kind of drug related criminal offense which has led the judge to think that the individual has any kind of drug or alcohol use issue. Not every person has the option of getting involved in an alcohol and drug treatment center as a criminal justice client, but if this option is ordered through the court it's strongly advised that the individual do everything they are able to to take full advantage of this opportunity. In many cases, other penalties and consequences can be entirely eradicated or lessened if the individual succeeds in treatment and finishes the alcohol and drug rehabilitation center that is ordered for them. First-time offenders would be the most likely criminal justice clients because it has been verified that criminal justice clients that do take part in rehab in lieu of other penalties have much lower recidivism rates than those people who are ordered to time in jail or similar consequences. In the end, it saves the court system both time and money when criminal justice clients receive effective rehab.
