DUI/DWI clients that are involved in drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs are generally there by their own choice, but usually in drug and alcohol rehab due to a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders may be ordered to rehabilitation either instead of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from rehab instead of being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been proven that individuals who are treated for drug abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being forced upon them have far better chances of remaining out from the courts than those who are fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug rehabilitation facilities DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, so that they can address these issues in order to find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances inside their lives which trigger their substance abuse.
