DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in drug and alcohol rehab programs are either there by their own choice, but more often than not in alcohol and drug treatment as part of a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, especially initial offenders might be ordered to rehabilitation either in place of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehabilitation as an alternative to being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been verified that those who are treated for substance abuse issues rather than other penalties being forced upon them have far better odds of staying out of the court system than those who find themselves fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug and alcohol treatment centers DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse drugs and alcohol, in order to address these issues and find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which prompt their drug or alcohol use. This can certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be affected by their drug abuse when they drive while intoxicated later on. This is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
