DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in alcohol and drug treatment facilities are generally there by their own choice, but more often than not in alcohol and drug treatment as part of a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders could possibly be required to go to treatment either in lieu of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehab instead of being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that people who are treated for substance abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being enforced upon them have far better chances of staying out from the courts than those who are fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In alcohol and drug treatment centers DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, so that they can address these issues and find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which set off their drug or alcohol use. This will certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be affected by their substance abuse whenever they drive while under the influence in the future.
