DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in drug and alcohol rehab centers are either there by their own choice, but generally in drug treatment as part of a mandated order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, especially first-time offenders could possibly be required to go to treatment either in lieu of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from treatment as opposed to being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that those who are treated for substance abuse issues rather than other penalties being forced upon them have much better chances of staying out of the court system than those who find themselves fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In alcohol and drug treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to enable them to address these issues in order to find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which set off their drug abuse. This will truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be impacted by their drug abuse when they drive while drunk or high later on. This is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
