DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities are either there by their own choice, but most of the time in drug and alcohol treatment due to a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, specifically initial offenders could be required to go to rehab either in lieu of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from treatment as an alternative to being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that people who are treated for substance abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being enforced upon them have far better chances of staying out of the courts than those who find themselves fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In alcohol and drug rehabilitation centers DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to be able to address these problems in order to find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances inside their lives which trigger their drug or alcohol use. This could truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be affected by their drug or alcohol use should they drive while under the influence down the road. It's a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
