DUI/DWI clients that are involved in drug rehab programs are either there by their own choice, but generally in drug rehabilitation as part of a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders may be ordered to treatment either in lieu of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehabilitation instead of being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been verified that individuals who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as an alternative to other penalties being enforced upon them have greater chances of staying out of the courts than those who find themselves fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug and alcohol rehab facilities DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to enable them to address these problems and find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which prompt their drug or alcohol use. This may truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be affected by their drug abuse should they drive while intoxicated in the foreseeable future. This is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
