DUI/DWI clients that are involved in alcohol and drug rehabilitation programs are generally there by their own choice, but more often than not in alcohol and drug treatment due to a mandated order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, especially first-time offenders might be ordered to rehab either instead of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from rehab instead of being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been proven that those who are treated for substance abuse issues rather than other penalties being enforced upon them have greater odds of staying out of the court system than those who are fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In alcohol and drug rehab programs DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse drugs and alcohol, in order to address these issues and find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which prompt their drug or alcohol use. This could certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be impacted by their drug abuse whenever they drive while intoxicated down the road. It's a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
