DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug and alcohol treatment programs are either there on their own accord, but generally in drug treatment as part of a mandated court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, especially initial offenders might be required to go to treatment either instead of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from treatment as an alternative to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been established that people who are treated for substance abuse issues instead of other penalties being forced upon them have greater chances of remaining out of the court system than those who find themselves fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug and alcohol rehab centers DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to be able to address these problems in order to find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which prompt their drug or alcohol use. This will certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be affected by their drug abuse if they drive while intoxicated in the future. It is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
