DUI/DWI clients that are involved in drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities are generally there on their own accord, but most of the time in drug and alcohol treatment due to a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders may be required to go to rehab either in place of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from rehabilitation as opposed to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been established that individuals who are treated for substance abuse issues instead of other penalties being forced upon them have much better chances of remaining out from the court system than those who find themselves fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug rehab centers DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, in order to address these problems and find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances inside their lives which prompt their substance abuse. This could truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be affected by their drug abuse when they drive while drunk or high in the future. This is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
