DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug treatment programs are generally there by their own choice, but most of the time in drug and alcohol treatment due to a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, specifically initial offenders may be required to go to treatment either in lieu of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from rehab rather than being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been established that individuals who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as an alternative to other penalties being enforced upon them have much better chances of staying out of the courts than people who find themselves fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In alcohol and drug treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse drugs and alcohol, in order to address these problems and find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which prompt their drug abuse. This will truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be impacted by their substance abuse if they drive while intoxicated later on. It's a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
