DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs are generally there on their own accord, but more often than not in drug and alcohol rehabilitation due to a mandated order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders may be required to go to treatment either in place of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehab rather than being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been established that individuals who are treated for drug abuse issues instead of other penalties being forced upon them have much better chances of staying out from the court system than those people who are fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In alcohol and drug treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse drugs and alcohol, so that they can address these issues and find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which set off their drug or alcohol use. This may truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be affected by their drug abuse whenever they drive while drunk or high in the foreseeable future. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
