DUI/DWI clients that are involved in alcohol and drug treatment programs are either there on their own accord, but usually in drug treatment due to a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders could possibly be ordered to rehabilitation either in lieu of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehabilitation instead of being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that individuals who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as opposed to other penalties being enforced upon them have much better chances of remaining out from the court system than those people who are fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug rehab programs DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to enable them to address these problems and find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which prompt their drug abuse. This will certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be affected by their drug or alcohol use if they drive while drunk or high later on. This is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
